Starseed Gallery

starseedgallery.net

Client’s Request:

German Abstract Artist Marlis Jermutus wanted a way to display art on the internet in 1996 when websites themselves were only a few years old. This current Starseed Gallery is the third iteration. The website includes:

  • a scrolling 3D virtual gallery
  • a special Installations section
  • extensive information on the artist’s life and philosophy
  • audio and video
  • a sales page
Designer’s Comments:

This current version of Starseed Gallery was built not that many years ago when Flash Animation was widespread on the internet. Many parts of the site use Adobe’s Flash technology, but unfortunately Apple’s prohibition of Flash on mobile devices, and the rise of JavaScript animations along with other technologies, Flash’s popularity is waning. We still really like the Virtual Gallery, but admit at some point we will want to update it. That will without doubt entice us into redesigning the entire website – perhaps for the site’s 20th anniversary? We’ll keep you posted!

Technology Used:

Computer applications and web technology used in building this website

  • Adobe Photoshop for creating graphics
  • Adobe Dreamweaver for editing and transferring various website files
  • Flash Animation for 3D Gallery, slideshows, audio player, and contact form
  • JavaScript for more recent Installations Page animations
  • A variety of SEO techniques

“Wow!”

– one of many wonderful comments from Marlis
